Troubleshooting

  1. Connection Issues
    1. Latency (person cutting in and out)
      1. Issue: Being too far away from your router or a wireless access point; or slow internet.
        1. Resolve: Move closer to your router or a wireless access point; or shut off all unnecessary networking hogging devices or programs such as: Netflix, Hulu, YouTube videos, or downloads, etc. that may be running on your network.
  2. Microphone issues
    1. Volume issues
      1. Issue: Volume is too loud
        1. Resolve: Make sure your microphone settings are set to auto-detect; move away from your microphone.
      2. Issue: Volume is too low
        1. Resolve: Make sure your microphone settings are set to auto-detect; move closer to your microphone.
    2. Microphone not working
      1. Issue: Mic is not picking up any input
        1. Resolve: Make sure you are not set to mute or that your physical mic has no mute function; or make sure the correct microphone is selected in the microphone settings on Zoom. If this doesn’t work, utilize the microphone test function in the microphone settings or utilize the chat function.
  3. Audio issues
    1. Audio Feedback
      1. Issue: Echoing of voices, loud screeching or squealing.
        1. Resolve: Make sure your physical microphone is plugged in properly and make sure your physical speakers are not close to your microphone, if you are using them. Make sure that you are muted when you are not speaking. (The spacebar acts as an unmute button when held down)
    2. Audio not working
      1. Issue: You cannot hear other members of your meeting.
        1. Resolve: Make sure your physical audio device is plugged in properly. Be sure to have your volume up and that your master volume on your computer is not set to mute. Make sure that the correct audio device is selected within Zoom. If these don’t work, utilize the audio test function.
    3. Background noise
      1. Issue: There is noise when someone speaks that is not coming from them.
        1. Resolve: Make sure they are muted while not speaking. (As a host, you can mute other members, but make sure you tell them!) Perhaps move to an area where there is less outside interference such as a conference room.
