City Manager Regina McDuffie

 

Background & Duties

The City Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and ensures that City operations and services are efficient, cost-effective, and responsive to the needs of the community. The City Manager is appointed by the City Commission to serve indefinite terms.

Biography

Regina M. McDuffie was appointed as the City Manager for the City of Brunswick, Georgia in May of 2020. She is the first female City Manager permanently appointed to the position. Regina has more than 30 years of experience in local government operations and management.

Mrs. McDuffie is a native of Macon, GA and worked for the City of Macon for more than 20 years in various capacities including Budget Director and Chief Administrative Officer. While at the city, she served as a direct report to six different Mayoral administrations. In her most recent position, she served as the County Manager for Macon County, Georgia for nearly 8 years. During her tenure in city and county government, she worked on numerous major projects including sales tax negotiation, development of service delivery strategies, building a $40 million hotel, writing and administering various grants and all aspects of budget administration. Throughout her career, Mrs. McDuffie has worked closely with local, state and federal officials, including traveling to Washington, DC to meet with agency heads to promote local government projects.

Mrs. McDuffie has earned many career recognitions including Leadership Macon Class of 1993 and President of Leadership Macon in 1998. She also was recognized as Department Head of the Year for the city of Macon in 2002 in recognition of her management of the Macon Centreplex complex and appointed as the first female Chief Administrative Officer in Macon in 2004. She received a Finance Officer certification from the Georgia Finance Officers’ Association and became a Certified County Official in 2014 with the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) serving on the Lifelong Learning Committee and a participant panelist for the New Commissioners Certification Program. She received an Economic & Leadership Development Certification in 2013 and served as Vice President of the Georgia County Managers and Administrator Association in 2019. Other service included President of the Macon County Kiwanis Club and recognition by the Georgia Women’s Legislative Caucus in 2017, receiving a Servant Leadership Award.

Her community involvement entailed countless volunteer hours including serving as Board Chair for the Booker T. Washington Community Center in Macon, GA for more than 15 years and as a member of the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Board in Americus, GA from 2014 - 2019.

Mrs. McDuffie currently serves as Vice Chair of GMA’s Hub Cities Initiative and has recently been appointed to serve on GMA’s Board of Directors as the Community Development Policy Chair.  She also serves as a member of GMA’s Excellence in Policing and Workforce Development Advisory Committees and as Chairperson for the City of Brunswick Pension Committee.

Education

Regina holds a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University and has completed coursework in Public Administration at Georgia College and State University and Business Administration at the University of Georgia.

Membership: International City/County Management Association, Georgia Municipal Association, Georgia City-County Management Association,  and the Georgia Association of Public Pension Trustees.
