Background and Duties
The Assistant City Manager works at the direction of the City Manager. Although he assists in all areas of day-to-day operations, he directly oversees Human Resources, Information Technology, and Municipal Court. He is hired by the City Manager and confirmed by the Commission.
Biography
Jeremiah W. Bergquist was hired by the City of Brunswick in June of 2022. He brings over 20 years of local government experience to the City of Brunswick, specifically in public safety administration.
Mr. Bergquist was born in Atlanta, GA where he lived until 1994. He spent the next 10 years around Springfield, Missouri before relocating back to Georgia in 2006. While in Missouri he graduated from Southwest Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree with a dual major in Psychology & Sociology, and a minor in Business Administration. After returning to Georgia, Mr. Bergquist settled with his family in Brunswick. Over the next 17 years, Mr. Bergquist served Brunswick and Glynn County working for the Glynn County Police Department. During that time, he served in almost every division in the department becoming a federal and state certified instructor and obtained both a Supervision and Management certification through the State of Georgia (POST). Mr. Bergquist was one of the first Glynn County employees to graduate from the Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy and participated in the FBI’s Executive Leadership Development training (LEEDA). He also served on the Glynn County Pension Committee. He also obtained his Master’s Degree from Columbus State University in Public Safety Administration.
In 2022 Mr. Bergquist had the opportunity to continue his public service with the City of Brunswick. “Leading up to 2022 I knew the City of Brunswick was under new leadership and I had seen many positive changes in the Community.” He began his employment by assisting with changes to the city’s public safety agencies, as well as bringing leadership and professionalism to departments city wide.
Education
Jeremiah holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwest Baptist University (Bolivar, Missouri). He also obtained his Master’s Degree in Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University (Columbus, Georgia). Jeremiah is currently finishing his Public Managers Certification (CPM) from the University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Membership: Georgia Municipal Association, Georgia City-County Management Association, and the Georgia Association of Public Pension Trustees.
