House Bill 793 Update:

March 31, 2025 marked a historic moment for the City of Brunswick as the Brunswick Home Ownership Municipal Exemption Act (H.O.M.E Act), House Bill 793 passed unanimously in both the Georgia House and Senate. Now, it awaits Governor Kemp’s signature to become law.  The H.O.M.E Act represents the first-ever property tax cut in Brunswick’s history, giving residents the opportunity to vote this November to lower their property tax bills for the 2026 tax year and forward. This milestone was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Brunswick City Commission, Mayor Johnson’s administration, Rep. Townsend, and Sen. Hodges, who have worked tirelessly to provide City residents with tax relief, stable home valuations, and a stronger foundation for long-time homeownership.

Background

Property taxes fund public services such as police and fire, health and education, infrastructure, and other programs and projects that benefit the community. In Brunswick, the Tax Department is managed by a Tax Specialist, who oversees day-to-day operations including the billing and collection of ad-valorem and non-ad valorem taxes. Ad-valorem taxes are taxes based on the assessed value of your property, as determined by the County Tax Commissioner. Non-ad valorem taxes are assessments that provide benefits to your property, such as trash disposal. Property taxes are levied by the City and Glynn County as vested in their charters.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide an environment that is welcoming to our citizens with the highest level of professionalism and efficiency in the collection of ad-valorem taxes and non-ad valorem taxes.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to educate and provide pertinent information to the residents and businesses of Brunswick in relation to property taxation.

Making Tax Payments on Property that is Not in Your Name

You may pay tax on properties that are not in your name. However, doing so does not allow you any claim of ownership to the property, regardless of how much you have paid, or how many years you have paid. Additionally, refund requests will not be honored if you change your mind.  Having your name listed on the tax receipt does not give ownership.

Property Values and Homestead Exemptions

The City of Brunswick does not assess values, that is done by the County. If you feel your appraisal value is in error, please call (912) 554-7093 or email property.appraisal [at] glynncounty-ga.gov (property[dot]appraisal[at]glynncounty-ga[dot]gov). They can also help with filing for Homestead Exemptions.  Please click on the image below for further details.

NEW OWNER UPDATES

In an effort to maintain current ownership data, new owners should notify the City of Brunswick Tax Department of ownership updates.
