City Archives

Archived Records

The Assistant City Clerk oversees the City's archives and records management program. The Clerk's Office houses a number of historical records spanning centuries! We currently maintain the following records:

  • Board & Commission Minutes from 1838-present.
  • Property Records from the 1800s to 1990s. Recent information can be accessed by visiting the Glynn County Courthouse
  • Historic Cemetery Records, please contact the Cemetery Specialist before planning a visit to the Clerk's Office. Much of the information can be obtained over the phone.
  • Miscellaneous Records, such as old petitions, contracts, and even antiques and maps.

Those interested in accessing the City Clerk's Archive please contact the Assistant City Clerk to schedule an appointment and avoid the trip if no one is available. A representative must be present in the Assistant City Clerk's Office to monitor and assist researchers.

Record Handling Etiquette

Those who access the City Clerk's Archive, please be mindful that many of the records that we maintain are over 120 years old! That means many of the documents must be handled with care. Therefore, we ask you to adhere to the following guidelines when accessing the archives:

Turn Pages Slowly Old documents are more prone to rip and tear. Additionally, small nails were used prior to the creation of staples to bind documents. To avoid injury, be mindful how quickly you grab and turn a pages.
Handle Materials With Both Hands Most of the documents our office maintains are very large and heavy books easily 10-20 pounds. Therefore, we ask that you handle our books with both hands and place them gently on the research table. Slamming the books down can cause damage, such as loosening the books hinges/binding.
Avoid Finger Reading If you are inclined to read using your fingers, please avoid physically touching the documents. Our historical records are written with centuries old pen and pencil prone to smear, smudge, and wipe off. This damage cannot be corrected.
Handle Loose Papers Carefully Loose papers tend to be brittle and prone to break. To maintain the integrity of documents in their original form, please handle all loose records with care. They can't be replaced!
