Tropical Storm Elsa
Updated 7.7.2021 - 2:13pm
Glynn County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning as Hurricane Elsa weakened on Tuesday night (7/6/2021) ahead of today's expected rainfall.
Expected Conditions
Elsa is expected to reach maximum wind speeds of 65 mph. This falls just 10 mph under the threshold of a category 1 hurricane. Due to this small gap between thresholds, residents and businesses are encouraged to be proactive and prepared as Elsa passes through our community.
- Glynn County predicts isolated gusts of up to 45 mph are likely.
As Elsa moves through Florida and into Georgia, the National Hurricane Center forecasts "heavy rainfall" and "possible flash flooding" in coastal areas. Therefore, Glynn County is under the following watches:
- Flood Watch - 3 to 6 inches of rain likely, with a minimal storm surge expected.
- Tornado Watch - there is a possibility of isolated tornados with a high chance of rip currents.
The impacts of Elsa are expected to begin this afternoon lasting through midnight. As a result, please limit your traveling and shelter in place if possible.
