Fire Marshal's Office

The Fire Marshal's Office Consists of Five Sections:

  1. Fire Inspections
  2. Public Education
  3. Training
  4. Plan Reviews
  5. Fire Investigations

Although, every section has its specific requirements this office is designed to address the overall safety of the general public and provide customer service to both internal/external customers.  The Fire Marshal's Office is also responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the State of Georgia’s Rules and Regulations as adopted under Chapter 120-3-3.

The Brunswick Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office adheres to the State Minimum Fire Safety Standards, Life Safety Code, various National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and the International Fire Code as adopted under 120-3-3.  According to Title 25-2-4 O.C.G.A., these codes have the "force and effect of law." 

Opening a New Business

When opening a new business, you will be required to bring the building you are updating up to the current fire code. While the requirements for different occupancies are different, we have listed below a few key points we will be looking at when we show up for your inspection.

  • Lighted exit signs and emergency lighting.
  • Fire extinguishers with service date no older than 1 year.
  • Fire detection: monitored or not monitored (whichever is required)
  • Fire alarm annual certification paperwork (If required)
  • If building is sprinkled: Sprinkler system green tagged within the last year.
  • Kitchens: Hood suppression system is installed and green tagged within the last year.
  • Address posted on outside of building with 4” numbers.
