City of Brunswick Celebrates $2.7 Million in Improvements at Howard Coffin Park with Community Event on May 23, 2026
The City of Brunswick invites the community to celebrate the official unveiling of $2.7 million in park improvements at Howard Coffin Park during a special event on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 1402 Sonny Miller Way. The celebration will include a sign unveiling, family-friendly activities, and refreshments. The park’s pool will also open for the first day of the season from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.These upgrades were made possible through a $2.1 million grant awarded to the City by the Georgia Governor's Office of Planning and Budget, along with $600,000 contributed in local funds, bringing the total investment to $2.7 million.Commissioner Felicia Harris shared “The recent improvements at the park represent a meaningful investment in our community’s quality of life and demonstrates a commitment to building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community for current and future generations. The revitalized park contributes to neighborhood pride, supports local engagement, and positively impacts nearby businesses and property values. Most importantly, the park serves as a place where people from diverse backgrounds can come together, strengthening community relationships and creating opportunities for recreation, education, and cultural activities.”The City’s investment enhances recreation, safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for Brunswick residents. Major improvements include:Walking Track & Accessibility Enhancements
- Widened and resurfaced walking track with 1/10-mile distance markings
- Water bottle filler added
- Improved lighting throughout the track area
- New pavilion at the walking track
- Upgrades to the circuit training area inside the track
- New paved parking area off Hwy 17
Athletic Field Upgrades
- Complete reconstruction of the soccer field, including drainage improvements and new sod
- Installation of a new turf football field with:
- New scoreboard
- New bleachers and fencing
- Reconstruction of four softball/baseball fields to tournament-caliber standards, including:
- Turf portable mounds
- New scorer’s tables
- New wireless scoreboards
- New shade structures
- State-of-the-art lighting installed at all fields
Park Amenities & Connectivity
- Additions to the dog park, including new dog apparatuses, benches, shade structures, and lighting
- Installation of a pedestrian walking bridge over the tidal creek
- New concrete sidewalk connecting the south fields to the north parking lot
- Addition of one basketball court
- Repainting of the tennis courts and addition of pickleball courts
- Additional parking lot lighting
- New signage throughout the park
