Brunswick Launches “Love Where You Live” Campaign Linking Green Infrastructure and Community Cleanup Efforts
April 3, 2026 (Brunswick, GA) - UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant, the City of Brunswick, and Keep Golden Isles Beautiful are launching a new community campaign, Love Where You Live, to connect green stormwater infrastructure with hands-on coastal cleanup efforts.
The campaign highlights green infrastructure projects installed in public spaces to reduce stormwater pollution and flooding, and pairs them with newly placed self-service litter cleanup stations that empower residents to help prevent debris from reaching Brunswick’s coastal waterways.
Several of the green infrastructure sites were installed by the City of Brunswick in collaboration with UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant and Goodwyn, Mills, Cawood. These projects use bioretention areas, bioswales and permeable pavement to capture, filter and temporarily store rainwater before it flows into nearby tidal creeks. By slowing runoff and trapping pollutants, the systems improve water quality while reducing localized flooding.
Guided by Brunswick’s Rethinking Runoff plan, the projects are part of a broader citywide effort to better manage stormwater and protect the coastal environment.
Litter cleanup stations have been installed near several of these green infrastructure demonstration sites, including Liberty Ship Park, Goodyear Park and Palmetto Park. Each station includes gloves, trash bags, and simple instructions encouraging residents and visitors to remove litter before it becomes stormwater pollution.
“I love Brunswick, and I believe keeping it clean is a shared responsibility. Our city is not a landfill,” said Commissioner Kendra Rolle. “I encourage everyone to dispose of trash properly and recycle items that can be recycled.”
“Green infrastructure helps address the pollutants we don’t always see in stormwater runoff,” said Jessica Brown, stormwater specialist at Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. “These cleanup stations allow the community to remove the debris we can see, creating a powerful combination of the city’s investment in green infrastructure and residents giving back to the community through individual action.”
Residents are encouraged to visit participating locations, grab a trash bag, and help protect Brunswick’s waterways.
