Assistant Public Works Director Rick Charnock Receives APWA Georgia Chapter Award of Excellence for Community Involvement
July 10, 2026 (Brunswick, GA) - The City of Brunswick is proud to announce that Assistant Public Works Director Rick Charnock has been recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Georgia Chapter with the Award of Excellence – Community Involvement.
Charnock has served the City of Brunswick for more than 21 years and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Public Works. Throughout his career, he has played a vital role in advancing infrastructure projects, environmental stewardship, and community engagement efforts across the city.
In his role, Charnock oversees the City's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater reporting, supervises Public Works Field Crew Superintendents, and works directly with residents to address Public Works concerns and infrastructure improvements. He also manages the City's tree maintenance program, oversees the work of the City's arborist, and serves as the Public Works liaison to the City of Brunswick Tree Board.
Charnock earned an Associate of Science in Business Administration and an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Technology from the College of Coastal Georgia, formerly Brunswick Junior College. He also holds certificates in APWA Advanced Public Works Management and local government risk management as a safety coordinator.
“Rick is a valuable asset to the Public Works Department and the City of Brunswick as a whole,” said Public Works Director Garrow Alberson. “He does a tremendous job for our department and is very deserving of this award. We are proud of Rick and are glad to see him recognized for his service.”
