In 1771, the Royal Province of Georgia laid out the City of Brunswick in the same strong grid pattern General James Oglethorpe used in establishing the City of Savannah. Settlers arrived and remained because of the attraction of the Port.

The City of Brunswick plans to submit a substantial amendment to its 2008-2009 Annual Action Plan and Consolidated Plan 2009-2011 (CDBG) to allow coordination of the City's CDBG funds with the City's Neighborhood Stabilization Funds. The amendment will be submitted to the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development around the 20th of November.
