Letter from the Chief

The City of Brunswick’s Fire Department provides fire prevention services and integrated emergency response to any situation that threatens the life, safety, or well-being of the people and property of Brunswick. Under the leadership of Fire Chief Tim White, the department serves with duty, honor and courage. Their commitment and compassion extends to areas including, but not limited to, fire prevention, fire suppression, hazard mitigation, and training.

The City of Brunswick is approximately twenty-five square miles and is protected by two fire stations and 41 firefighting personnel. A three-platoon system is utilized with firefighters working twenty-four hour shifts, followed by forty-eight hours off duty.

ln 2021, the Brunswick Fire Department responded to 3,418 emergency alarms. The department is considered a proactive department with Fire Prevention being its key role within the community. Pre-Fire Planning and Fire Inspections are a daily routine. The City of Brunswick currently holds a Class 1 Fire Protection Rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO). The Insurance Services Office collects information on a community's public fire protection and analyzes the data using a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). They then assign a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire-suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum criteria.
