ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

 

The Community and Economic Development Department programs are designed to provide decent and affordable housing, provide a suitable living environment and increase economic opportunities for the low to moderate income citizens of Brunswick. These programs are designed to encourage the self sufficiency of the recipients, stabilize and strengthen older neighborhoods, and promote a safe, healthy and prosperous community as a whole.

 

We administer a variety of programs funded through HUD and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs that include housing rehabilitation, emergency assistance to the disabled and elderly, homebuyer down payment loans and grants, and assistance with the removal of slum and blight conditions. Through our partnerships with local public service agencies we seek to strengthen the community outreach to people affected by abuse, homelessness, and fragmented families.

 

The Department fosters the growth and vitality of the local economy through attraction, retention and expansion of quality business and industry, both large and small. We facilitate re-development using a citizen-centered approach that ensures integrity, innovation, and responsiveness. Through a comprehensive and all encompassing strategy we seek to create positive change by promoting self-sufficiency through partnership in economic development, quality housing, and neighborhood reinvestment.

 

Community and Economic Development Department staff has extensive neighborhood revitalization experience and are well versed in the various housing program offerings. Department staff is available to provide Brunswick City residents and businesses with helpful, informative and courteous customer service.
